98th Annual Free Enterprise Award Luncheon

About the
Free Enterprise Award Luncheon
When the Insurance Federation of New York, Inc. (IFNY) was founded in 1913, its purpose, like that of many other state federations formed around that time, was to protect private insurers from what was perceived as undue governmental intervention, even competition. State insurance funds were one target, among several, and federations such as New Yorks would typically call upon allies in the private sector to rally opposition against this and the other seeming encroachments of publicly controlled mechanisms.
As the years went by, IFNYs outlook evolved, accommodating what were to become essential parts of the insuring system throughout the United States, such as meaningful state regulation of the business of insurance, some state sponsored forms of insuring, and a general balance of consumer and business interests.
The Insurance Federation of New York, Inc., for nearly a century, has continued to develop, becoming a leading resource for communicating ideas among all sectors involved in the insuring process. IFNY has brought public and private interests together through its forums. The Insurance Federation of New York, Inc.s prestigious Free Enterprise Awardpresented to some of historys legendary entrepreneurs every November at the Annual Luncheon held in New York Citycontinues to salute risk takers, captains of private (and, in some instances, public) institutions whose creativity and initiative enables U.S. business to expand. In the insurance industry, it is the commitment of these leaders that has allowed the risk transfer mechanism to permit the growth of both business and consumer activities.
Today, the Insurance Federation of New York, Inc.s annual calendar of events brings together the best and brightest in our field year round to ensure that industry intelligence is shared and that support for best practices in insurance law and regulation earns the understanding of leaders across the spectrum.
