Donald D. Gabay
Donald Gabay was a senior partner of the law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP. Headquartered in New York City’s financial district, the firm has approximately 350 lawyers in the United States.
Mr. Gabay founded the firm’s insurance practice group—one of the first among Wall Street law firms, and concentrates his practice in corporate, regulatory matters and resolution of reinsurance disputes, representing major property/casualty, life and health insurers and reinsurers, as well as other licensees of insurance departments around the United States. He has been active in insurance affairs for over 50 years.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gabay served in New York State government for more than 10 years. He was the First Deputy Superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department from 1978-1984 and prior thereto was Chief Counsel to the New York State Assembly Committee on Insurance.
Mr. Gabay began his insurance career as a property/casualty broker and life agent after graduating from The City College of New York with a BBA in accounting, later also graduating from Brooklyn Law School with a concentration in commercial transactions.
He has been active with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and the National Conference of Insurance Legislators.
Mr. Gabay is past President and Chairman of IFNY and the recipient of numerous insurance industry awards, the last one being the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Insurance Brokers of Greater New York.
